Sunday's action starts early

All five entries in Heat 2-A made the grade to start Sunday's action. Unfortunately, I got back too late to catch it live but managed to see the very end, so ELAM picked up the win followed by the BEACON PLUMBING in second. LAKERIDGE PAVING ran fourth but benefited from a one lap penalty assessed to CONOVER INSURANCE, moving LAKERIDGE up one position to third and CONOVER fourth. FORMULABOATS.COM II did not finish.
Jeff Bernard put a smile on uncle/boss Mike Weber's face with a perfect start in Heat 2-B, leading David Bryant in TODD HOSS MORTGAGE INVESTORS and Ken Muscatel in SUPERIOR RACING. Rookie Brian Perkins trailed in MEYERS AUTO TECH. Bernard showed his muscle through the first turn and was never headed, bringing the former T-5 Bud home for the win. HOSS MORTGAGE finished a steady second, with SUPERIOR third, and MEYERS fourth.
I was hoping for a possible Gold Cup rematch in Heat 2-C between OBERTO and the U-3 HOSS MOTRGAGE-RONALD McDONALD HOUSE when both battled for 5 laps, averaging over 151 mph. It was a picture perfect start this time for David and the OBERTO, edging King and the HOSS MORTGAGE-RONALD McDONALD along with Greg Hopp in MIRAGEBOATS.COM and J. Michael Kelly trailing in SPIRIT OF DETROIT. OBERTO and HOSS flew through the first turn and powered down the straight, with OBERTO holding fast in first through the first lap. Going into the first turn on lap number two, the motor let go in the HOSS and King steered her into the infield. OBERTO held on for first, making up for yesterday's gun-jumping mistake. SPIRIT OF DETROIT, who almost didn't make it due to some steering problems, took second, with MIRAGEBOATS third.
I guess Nate Brown never had any intent on running his new RED DOT this weekend, but rather brought the boat to show everyone that the boat really existed, and to finish some of the construction in the pits. The boat's colorful, to be sure, with a strange air intake on the cowling (see picture at top of blog). Nate saus they just wanted to try something different.
Heats 3-A, B, and C coming up in a bit …
