Winding down toward the final ...

A terrific way to start the third set of heats, as Jeff Bernard in FORMULABOATS I, Steve David in the OBERTO, and David Bryant in TODD HOSS MORTGAGE all hit the line on the money - Ken Muscatel trailed but only slightly in SUPERIOR RACING. Bernard, on the inside track, took the lead and battled David closely for two and a half laps before extending his lead and taking the win. OBERTO finished second, with TODD HOSS third, and SUPERIOR fourth.
2-B didn't shape up to be much - the U-3 TODD HOSS PRESENTS RONALD McDONALD HOUSE tore up their motor pretty bad in the previous heat, so they packed it in to be ready for Seattle next week. That left Chris Bertram in the MISS CONOVER INSURANCE, J. Michael Kelly in the SPIRIT OF DETROIT, and Jean Theoret in MISS BEACON PLUMBING. Kelly was called for a one lane encroachment penalty prior to the start after Bertram almost got washed down. Not that it mattered, as SPIRIT OF DETROIT went dead before the completion of of the first lap. Theoret cruised to a half a lap vivtory over Bertram.
Predictably, 2-C was a yawner from the get-go. Vader and ELAM grabbed the lead at the start and coasted. Greg Hopp was a distant second in MIRAGEBOATS.COM, while David Williams was third in LAKERIDGE PAVING and rookie Brian Perkins took fourth with MEYERS AUTO TECH.
ELAM has a perfect score going into the final with 1,200 points. BEACON PLUMBING is also in with 1,100, then FORMULABOATS.COM I with 927, TODD HOSS MORTGAGE INVESTORS with 925, OBERTO with 869, and if they run a sixth boat - and they usually do in Tri-Cities - it'll be CONOVER INSURANCE with 769. That leaves MIRAGEBOATS, MEYERS AUTO TECH, SUPERIOR RACING, SPIRIT OF DETROIT, and LAKERIDGE PAVING to run in the consolation, or "last chance" heat in order for a crack at getting in the final. The U-3 HOSS MORTGAGE-RONALD McDONALD and FORMULABOATS.COM II are both through for the day and already are packing up.
The consolation is scheduled for 3:15, with the final set for 4:40 (Pacific time).
