Final field set at Madison

It's about 45 minutes away as I type this, but the final six boats for the final are now set. They are:

Front row:

U-6 O BOY! OBERTO / 1200 pts.
U-16 MISS ELAM PLUS / 1025 pts.
U-37 MISS BEACON PLUMBING / 1025 pts.
U-3 MISS CHRYSLER-JEEP / 1000 pts.

Trailers:

U-100 MIRAGEBOATS.COM / 1000 pts.
U-13 SPIRIT OF DETROIT / 825 pts.

Because of the tightness of the Ohio River course, the unlimiteds for several years now have run 4 boats on the front row for the final with 2 trailing at the start. Recapping 3-A, B and C: Steve David is giving his 13,000 hometwon owners of the O BOY! OBERTO / MISS MADISON plenty to cheer about as he guided the U-6 to a third consecutive heat win, edging past Jimmy King in the MISS CHRYSLER JEEP in Heat 3-A, and SUPERIOR RACING finished tird.

Only two boats showed for Heat 3-B - Dave Villwock and Greg Hopp both needed a heat win to get on the front line for the final, and that was settled by MISS ELAM PLUS pulling out the win over MIRAGEBOATS.COM. The U-1 FORMULABOATS.COM managed to shake off her earlier problems and entered Heat 3-C against MISS BEACON PLUMBING and SPIRIT OF DETROIT. Theoret stayed legal at the start and actually trailed J. Michael Kelly going into the first turn, but power slid his way through corners 1 and 2 and vaulted into a lead he would not relinquish. BEACON finished first with SPIRIT OF DETROIT second and FORMULABOATS.COM II third.

It's been a great time so far, some good racing at times, and best of all - nobody has blown over. Some of the boats have had minor boat damage that has been repaired, and only MISS AHERN RENTALS suffered mishaps that forced them to withdraw (gearbox problems, I hear tell).

Back after the final ...
